In the run up to Christmas, there’s plenty of live music, exciting happenings, and festive cheer over at Dulcimer. We take you through 5 must-know events taking place this week over at the Chorlton local.

Local folk songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Matt Hartless kicks off the week’s events at Dulcimer. Hartless is known for his bluesy guitar takes and expertly written folk stories; check out his recent single, The Whisper and the Hurricane, for a taste ahead of the show.

Another opportunity to take part in Chorlton’s most established Open Mic Night. Whether you want to play a favourite cover or test out a newly-penned original song, this is a great chance to test out songs on stage to a supportive audience.

FREAKOUT! is a brand new night in Chorlton dedicated to “psych, garage rock, punk, blues and anything in between”, featuring stellar live bands with live visuals and projects. Their very first night includes live slots from Glaswegian experimental-pysch outfit; The Kundalini Gene, a local trio who draw influences from sources as diverse as free jazz and overdriven rock; and The Phenomenots, a punk rock set hailing from Wycombe. Not to be missed!

naSty but nice is a new series of music events launching at Dulcimer this Saturday, aiming to “bring artists and listeners together through a spirited love of music and creativity”. Focusing on R&B, Neo-soul and hip-hop, their first event features producer and rapper Lehin, jazz-influenced songwriter Evabee, and New Wave/R&B fusion artist and host, le-naSty. Hopefully the first of many to come at Dulcimer!

The second annual festive market at Dulcimer. With plenty of local makers selling their wares, this is a great opportunity to browse in time for Christmas. Two featured sellers are Stationary N’ Stationery, offering a wide range of gifts and handmade cards, and Don’t Be A Sheep, famed for beautifully knitted and crocheted clothing. Swing by this Sunday afternoon to nail down that Christmas shopping.
