As much as it’s a good thing that a lot of the BBC has moved up north to MediaCity, it’s a shame that not many of us actually get to see it. The old BBC building on Oxford Road wasn’t the most beautiful thing to look at, but it was a firm representation of the broadcaster’s standing and renown in the city – a tram ride to Salford doesn’t have the same vibe to it yet. However, for one day only, BBC North opens its doors to the public, letting you have a look at what they’re doing down there, with free 30-minute routes, featuring a talk about all the best programmes being made up here and a visit to the interactive studio. This tour won’t be suitable for children under 9, but it should serve as a firm reminder that the corporation will be informing, educating and entertaining up here for years to come.
