This month, HER Productions takes over HOME with a gleefully subversive interpretation of Shakespeare’s pulsating, polarising comedy, Taming of the Shrew.
When drunken patron Sly wakes up from a night of bacchanalian burlesque and chaotic cabaret, the Unseemly Women spin him a wickedly mischievous tale to convince him that he is a Lord of tremendous wealth and importance, before recounting the story of a rich merchant of Padua and his two daughters, Katerina and Bianca. Because Katerina is too ‘shrewish’ to marry, the merchant has decreed that Bianca won’t be wed until her insolent sister finds a husband.
Led by an all-female and non-binary cast, HER’s ‘Unseemly Women’ twist on the definitive madcap play promises a night of sparkling Shakespeare packed with dazzling choreography in the return of their ‘bruisingly knockout adaptation’.
