The White Hotel, it’s one of Manchester’s most enigmatic and exciting names.
The off-the-beaten-track venue’s reputation for offering a platform to the most innovative, up-and-coming creators has seen its notoriety grow substantially in recent years, as crowds make the unlikely trip through a Salford industrial estate to catch the next big thing.
The folks behind the famed space do have another project going on in town, too. Opened a couple of years back, Peste takes the shape of a bar, bookshop and record fair just off Great Ancoats Street, opposite Wing Yip supermarket.
Much like The White Hotel, Peste lets the original features of the building sing, with daunting concrete columns framing the circular bar that sits in the centre of the room.
A utopia of rare reads, books of varying sizes and topics cascade the walls — musical discographies, weird and wonderful travel handbooks, historical texts, niche wine guides, the collection is at times bizarre as it is fascinating.
Downstairs, a multi-purpose venue, one that firmly falls into the inspiration of no-nonsense, houses music, art installations and other creative get-togethers.
Keep an eye on the venue’s Instagram for the latest opening times and events.
