Hailing from South Carolina, Hiss Golden Messenger are seeped in the American folk-tradition. They spin dark dramatic stories of spiritual crisis and resolution, strangely joyous and uplifting, delivered in a warm deep drawl. The Guardian called them ‘front-porch musicians’ but they’re so much more than your traditional stoop band. Members MC Taylor and Scott Hirsch have been playing together for over two decades, previously in hardcore band Ex-Ignota and indie troubadours The Court & Spark. Since forming HGM in 2007 they have released a string of acclaimed albums, none more so than latest release, Haw. MC Taylor played to an impassioned crowd at Sounds From The Other City 2013, taking power failures in his stride to deliver a gig that gave goosebumps. HGM return this Sunday. Let’s see what they can do when the power stays on.
