While the 1960s saw Beatles-mania sweep across our own nation, New York was having its own iconic revolution: that of the art world. Take yourself back to 1961’s cosmopolitan New York art scene at the Whitworth Gallery this weekend, for an evening of ‘music, dance, art and conversation’ in honour of the year that spotlighted Britain’s finest, David Hockney. Featuring some exciting musical guests – including the harmonies of Otto Smart, Rachel Hillary and Manchester’s own folk saviours Yields – and alternative dance from Hannah Buckley, the event promises to capture the essence of the celebrated decade and transport you into a classic Woody Allen movie-style setting. And if that’s not enough to convince you, entry to the party – part of the gallery’s regular After Hours series – is free and comes with a complimentary glass of wine. No booking required.
Sat 15 Dec, Whitworth Art Gallery, Oxford Road, M15 6ER, Tel: 0161 275 7450, 7.30pm – 10.30pm, FREE, www.facebook.com
