Just as a record label, Finders Keepers have been doing some wonderful things – but far from content at ticking over as a great little indie, they’ve long since moved into film screenings. The latest in their Hocus Focus series at The Dancehouse may be there most ambitious yet though. A double bill, the first half will be made up of rarely aired film Vali The Witch of Positano, a documentary about Australian pen and ink artist Vali Myers. Premiered in 1965 at the Mannheim Film Festival, this is one for the bucket list of any film fanatic. The headline act, however, is a rescoring of 1973 cult Japanese animation classic Kanashimi no Belladonna (or, literally translated, Belladonna of Sadness). Known for its violent and erotic imagery, it follows the story of a girl accused of witchcraft – and with no known English subtitled version available, this performance is to be soundtracked and reimagined by Bird Record’s own Jane Weaver. Finders Keepers DJs will be spinning tracks in the bar to keep you entertained while you get your drinks and popcorn during the interval too.
