Forced Entertainment is a peculiarly-named but award-winning theatre company from Sheffield. The group will make its debut at HOME at the end of this month with the acclaimed play ‘Real Magic’. This avant garde piece takes the form of a demented cabaret act or game show. Three people are trapped in a fragment of this act, where they need to perform a feat of mind reading to proceed. Unable to complete this impossible task, they are forced to endlessly repeat a moment of defeat. Will they ever be able to break the cycle? To add to its hypnotic nature, the play is set to looped music and canned laughter. ‘Real Magic’ has been performed across Europe, including at the Edinburgh Festival and La Bastille in Paris, and along the way it received very good reviews from The Guardian and The Stage. There are only three performances, so be sure to book soon.
