There was mass outcry earlier this year when it was announced that government cuts might have meant an end for Manchester’s beloved Museum Of Science and Industry (MOSI). Social media quickly took up the rallying cry with petitions and hashtags aplenty to Save Our MOSI. It was nothing short of heartfelt – a collective coming together to save an institution of this fair city that has given so much to the education and wonderment of the children (and adults) of Manchester and the North West. Though now we see it wasn’t so much about saving the educational wing of the museum, so much as it was to see MOSI through to September in order for the third annual Real Ale & Cider Festival to take place in the Power Hall of the Castlefield landmark. Looking at the selections that were available at last year’s event we can only hope the whole lot return, with a few surprises thrown in for good measure. Expect beers from the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany, alongside brews from the North West including local favourites like Marble, Hornbeam, and Elektrik Ale Experiment. All will accompanied by a stellar selection of ciders and perries from across the South West. Let’s look to more of the same this time round. So thanks for saving MOSI Manchester. Go have a beer – you’ve earned it.
