The brains behind monthly gig-and-get-together Hot Sketch (every third Saturday at the Salutation) kick off their new film club at Withington’s cosy Fuel with Terrence Malick’s uncompromising 1970s classic Badlands. Malick’s dramatisation of the 1950s Starkweather-Fugate killing spree – where a teenage girl (played by Sissy Spacek) accompanied her older boyfriend (Martin Sheen) in the slaughter of her entire family and others in the Dakota badlands – is propped up by three animated shorts: David Shrigley and Chris Shepherd’s Who I Am and What I Want, Terry Gilliam’s Storytime, and the award-winning Rabbit by animator and illustrator Run Wrake. It’s free to watch the films, and for those wanting to feast literally as well as culturally, Fuel is offering a beer and falafel burger for a fiver. Hang out, don’t hangover.
