A decade on from his debut EP The Sound Of Strangers, Ghostpoet remains a sharply dark observer of the Great British psyche. “Can everyone please panic buy my album, thanks,” he tweeted this week, tongue squarely planted in cheek. We share his confidence there’s plenty more hours of satisfaction to be got from his forthcoming album I Grow Tired But Dare Not Fall Asleep than from any size of loo roll stockpile.

Conceiving five heterogeneous albums in 10 years is impressive work, but Obaro Ejimiwe is clearly still swollen with new ideas. Lead single Concrete Pony is super moody, mystical even, and packed with powerful poetry that talks of our disconnected, attention seeking times. Make sure you take in every moving word when he comes to Manchester Academy 2 later this year. Tickets go on sale at 10am on Friday 13 March 2020.
