The first solo show by Manchester-based illustrator and typography James O’Connell is on display at Northern Quarter venue 2022NQ until Sunday 14 October. This show presents a diverse range of original work O’Connell has created over the last five years. A multidisciplinary artist, he has enjoyed international success and used a mixture of illustration and new media, while also exploring form, tone and texture in his work. He aims to create thought-provoking artworks, but also invites humour and colour into his work. For this show, O’Connell exploits populist themes, from contemporary culture to iconic music ‘pin-ups’ and sci-fi legends, while references to visionary artists and left-field thinking are also entertained.
