A celebration of grass roots music as much as the record shops that keep fighting the good fight against online proliferation of music, Record Store Day isn’t just about creating huge queues outside Piccadilly Records, there’s also some great tie in gigs around the city. Such as local hard rock two piece The Hyena Kill at The Deaf Institute. Essential listening for fans of QOTSA and Helmet and co, The Hyena Kill celebrate the release of new album Spun, on Monday 23 April, and are joined by an equally heavy line up – watch this space.

Sat 21 Apr, The Deaf Institute, 135 Grosvenor Street, Manchester, M1 7HE. Tel: 0161 276 9530. 7pm, £10, www.thedeafinstitute.co.uk
