If you look at the raft of hilarious comedy actors that have come through in the last 20-30 years in America, Will Ferrell, Tina Fey, Steve Carrell etc, they all got their start in improv.

More specifically at The Second City where long-form improv is a religion and the history of this sort of storytelling goes even further back. Looking to bring a little of this hilarity to the UK and more specifically the UK’s second city of Manchester are Improv North, a new venture from comedians Freya Parker and Paul Foxcroft.

Parker is one half of sketch duo Lazy Susan and has appeared in the likes of Wonka and One Day, while Foxcroft has cropped up in the likes of Ted Lasso, Brassic and Drifters, and together they bring a combined 30 years experience of comedy and improvisation to the table.

If you’ve ever wanted to give it a try or are looking for something to help with confidence and presentation then improv is a great way to do so. It’s also basically just playing around for adults!

Offering 8-week courses that begin in late September, there are a couple of taster sessions coming up at 53Two on Tue 10 Sep from 7pm – 9pm and Sun 15 Sep from 1pm – 3pm.

These will be fun, relaxed classes where participants work in a group, play some easy warm-up games then go through some of the basics of improv.
