Over the years DJ, writer and broadcaster Dave Haslam has interviewed famous faces including John Lydon, Kate Tempest and Roisin Murphy as a part of his Close Up series. The list of renowned figures sets to continue as novelist, Jay McInerney joins Haslam to discuss his life and work. Jay McInerney rose to literary fame with Bright Lights, Big Cit and will discuss his latest book Bright Precious Days. The novel tells the tale of Russell and Corrine Calloway who, whilst living in New York, find themselves slowly ostracised from their high society lifestyle by relentless financial pressure. Both a literary and commercial success, the novel is one which reflects on the value and place of money as well as the price that is paid for success beyond the purely financial. Set against a backdrop of the collapse of the Twin Towers and global economic downturn, McInerney’s book delves into themes of human fallibility, the capacity to cope with struggle and the the adaptability of love. After the discussion, there will be will be an opportunity for audience questions as well as a book signing.
