A true free spirit and all-encompassing musical entity, Jarboe’s long and illustrious career can be characterised by productivity and scope. It is a difficult task to try to ascribe words to a force of nature; something that embodies so much. A vocal range that is near operatic, Jarboe is as able to caress her listeners with a seraphic tenderness as she is to crush with earth shattering bellows. She has collaborated with everyone from Mika Vainio to Neurosis and has been a lasting and enigmatic influence on the current crop of dark songstresses, her particular sensuality detectable in the likes of Zola Jesus, Chelsea Wolfe and the shows main support and Queen of Manchester’s darkwave, Die Hexen. When it was announced it 2010 that Swans would be reactivating, the question on many peoples lips was would Jarboe feature in the line-up? A figurehead in that group’s most beautiful and transcendental period, Jarboe soulful gift to that music cemented her legacy in experimental music. Returning after headlining last year’s Fat Out Fest, Jarboe promises a cathartic and reimagined suite of songs from the Swans oeuvre.
