This Sunday, Cornerhouse will present Jeanette Winterson in conversation with the acclaimed writer Patrick Marber. Marber is well-known for the play Closer, and subsequent the film adaptation, which he scripted, starring Jude Law and Julia Roberts. He also adapted Zoe Heller’s Notes on a Scandal and his own novel Asylum for the big screen. More recently, he worked on the script for the Fifty Shades of Grey movie, to add depth and character. This discussion will use clips of his films to highlight topics such as creating female characters, and the difference between stage and screen writing. Marber will also discuss the commercial demands of working in film, and his period of writer’s block. Interviewer Jeanette Winterson is the award-winning author of Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit, and a professor of new writing at Manchester University.
