From immersive starlit shows to spellbinding concerts, Jodrell Bank has unveiled a packed winter programme filled with cosmic adventures for the entire family.
Kicking off the festive season early will be an enchanting new Dome Show: What Santa Sees. Running weekends from Sat 14 Nov – Sun 20 Dec, with additional shows on Mon 21 Dec, Tue 22 Dec and Wed 23 Dec, audiences are invited to join Santa as he travels the globe, flying alongside the reindeer and experiencing the journey through Father Christmas’ eyes.
On Sun 6 Dec, Celtic Christmas Strings brings a mesmerising evening of live music to the Space Dome, performed by legendary Irish harper Máire Ní Chathasaigh and acclaimed English guitarist Chris Newman.
The fantastic Goofus Theatre will be joining the festivities, too. On Sat 19 Dec and Sun 20 Dec, they’ll bring Stars and Stones to Jodrell, a fantastical adventure of ancient magic and transformation, told with puppetry, play and music, in a landscape and time 3000 years ago.
Jodrell Bank’s critically acclaimed Pink Floyd The Dark Side of the Moon show will also be running a handful of special Twixmas editions. The captivating experience brings the group’s seminal record to life in spectacular style on Space Dome’s curved screen. Fusing captivating visuals and surround sound, it’s a listening party like no other. These additional daytime showings will be taking place at 2pm Mon 28 Dec – Thu 31 Dec. Be warned, though, these events are hugely popular and nearly always sell out.
Elsewhere around the UNESCO World Heritage Site, locally sourced cafes will be stocked with festive treats, the Arboretum will be open for scenic winter walks, daily Telescope Talks will be taking place with explosive demonstrations, and four pavilions are packed with interactive exhibitions, including the fascinating new photography collection, The North Revisited.
