John Shuttleworth’s threatened to retire on a few occasions; to put the Bontempi back in its box in the loft and fold up the roll neck jumper and pop it in a drawer. Thankfully he hasn’t and instead he’s out of his shed for his latest tour, entitled Out Of Our Sheds. Shuttleworth is a former security guard from Sheffield who’s married to Mary, a dinner lady at the local primary school. His unlikely showbiz career is managed by neighbour Ken Worthington who came last in New Faces 1973. Over the years Shuttleworth has regaled us with chat of his humble life and songs about the perils of going back to savoury after you’ve started your pudding, pigeons in flight, two margarines being open in the fridge simultaneously, and a solitary lost glove. it’s a career, however that has been dogged by the persistent rumours that he is in fact a fellow called (Graham) Fellows. As John himself would say, ‘Oof’.
