The Pope of Trash himself Mr John Waters is performing a one-man show at the Academy later this month. Carsick is a comic lecture that centres on Waters’ attempt to hitch-hike from Baltimore to San Francisco. The show charts the hardships of trying to get a ride, and the many eccentric people that he met during his travels. The show is the second of the Filthy World series, in which Waters looks at his own life and career in relation to the seedier side of life. Waters is most famous as the director of Pink Flamingos, Hairspray and Cry-Baby. He has been pushing the boundaries of popular culture for half a century, starting with his first short film, Hag in a Black Leather Jacket, in 1964. The event is a tie-in with his book of the same name, and will conclude with a signing.
