Legendary hip-hop group Jungle Brothers will play Band on the Wall on Monday. The group first hit the music scene in 1988 with an innovative mixture of rap and jazz, plus Afrocentric lyrics. They were an influence on just about every other rap act that came after them. Together with artists such as De la Soul and A Tribe Called Quest, they were part of a the Native Tongues crew, a loose collective of like-minded performers who helped push hip-hop in new and more lyrical directions. Jungle Brothers were active throughout the nineties and noughties, releasing a total of six studio albums. This set will span the group’s long and diverse career. Support comes from In the Loop and Karmic Evolution.
