Hit neighbourhood bistro Kala is celebrating six years since opening on King Street, marking the occasion with a limited-edition menu and a chance to win meals on the house for the rest of the year.
General Manager John and Head Chef Jack (who have both been with Kala since the beginning), have put their heads together to create a special ‘specials’ menu which is being served from Thu 1 May – Sat 10 May.
Featuring some of the team’s favourite dishes from the past six years, the birthday specials will be available from 4pm onwards, Mon – Sat. The new additions will sit alongside the regular main menu, which is priced at £48 for two courses and £55 for three.
For starters, guests can pick between a confit duck leg doughnut with rhubarb purée, toasted nori and smoked garlic honey, or flamed octopus with butterbean and roast garlic purée, salsa matcha and sunflower seed.
Mains feature an 8oz flat iron steak, served with creamed spinach, truffle and Parmesan fries and peppercorn sauce, and a monkfish tail roasted on the bone, spring onion dressing, red cabbage mango and maple salad, roasted macadamia and BBQ sauce.
For dessert, there’s the wonderfully indulgent-sounding banoffee choux bun, dulce de leche ice cream, caramelised banana with dark chocolate and whipped cream, or a Tres Leche Cake.
A special £6 birthday cocktail will be poured throughout the celebration period. The Kala Spritz mixes sweet vermouth with monastrell rosado, blackberry syrup and soda.
Anyone dining at Kala between Thu 1 May – Sat 10 May will also be entered into a competition to win a free meal for two (to the value of £100) every month for the rest of the year.
If you happened to be one of the original backers of the 2019 Kickstarter that supported Kala’s opening, there’ll be a free glass of fizz, beer or a soft drink thrown in for you, too.
