Kala is hosting a special Meet the Artist with the supremely talented Chris Cyprus on Thu 23 Nov.

Chris is a self-taught artist from right here in Manchester, specialising in vivid evocative depictions of Northern England via oil painting, transforming the seemingly mundane into ethereal pieces that stir feelings of familiarity and a strong sense of home.

If you’ve dined at Kala before you’ll have seen some of Chris’s pieces on the walls, in fact, you’ll find lots of his work across Gary Usher’s group with some notable pieces hanging in their new White Horse pub in Churton.

Chris will be exhibiting a few pieces on the night, and will be taking part in a Q&A about all things art, food and the North.

Guests will also be treated to a one-off set menu. Kicking things off will be the ‘Smokehouse at Staithes’, a snack course consisting of smoked mackerel pate, digestive biscuit and cucumber relish, followed by the ‘Allotted Time’ starter, which features salt-baked celeriac, Jerusalem artichoke, crispy beer pickled onions, beetroot ketchup, pear relish and chestnut.

For the main, its ‘Warm House’, roast fillet of beef, wild mushroom and potato pithivier, cavolo nero, black truffle and parsnip puree, mushroom and madeira sauce, and dessert is the ‘Perfect Harmony’, a salted chocolate and olive oil tart with cream cheese ice cream.

Tickets are priced at £60pp, which includes a welcome drink. The evening gets underway with the Q&A at 6.30pm, snacks and fizz at 7pm and first courses to be served at 7.30pm. You can book your spot using the button below.
