After a series of strokes rendered her unable to speak Kathleen Major took to her art to communicate with family and friends. Now in an exhibition at Gallery Oldham, just over the M61 from where she studied at Wigan Art School and subsequently met her husband (the painter Theodore Major), her work is shown in a solo show. Recently rediscovered as an artist in her own right, her painted, stylised works (see FGirl In Snow, pictured) offer simplistic yet fittingly deep reflections of the world as she saw it. Rarely using a straight line her work is a wonderful evocation of the power of art to overcome the most trying of circumstances, a reflection of her unique vision.
