This January, The Lowry invites you to get together, shake off the post-Christmas blues and enjoy a ‘theatrical experience like no other’ with Torben Betts’ bone-chillingly tense and riotously witty new ghost-tale-cum-psychological thriller, Murder in the Dark.

Running from Tue 23 to Sat 27 Jan, the ‘intense, fun and thrilling’ (whatsgoodtodo.com) production promises a wildly suspenseful and wickedly funny paranormal romp starring an illustrious cast of TV favourites, led by Tom Chambers (Holby City, Casualty, Waterloo Road, Father Brown and Strictly Come Dancing champion), Susie Blake (Victoria Wood’s As Seen on TV) and Rebecca Charles (The Dresser).

On a bleak, foreboding New Year’s Eve, a car crash on a dark and deserted countryside road forces the famous but fraught singer Danny Sierra to hunker down in a remote rural English holiday cottage with his dysfunctional family. Shortly after finding refuge amidst the ominous, windswept hills, a series of mysterious and unsettling events begin to unfold, and before long they are plunged into darkness. As frantic confusion and creeping anxiety mutate into abject terror, and long held, deeply repressed secrets come to light, Danny and his family soon discover that nothing is as it seems.

Borne by ‘a narrative that looks straight out of a Black Mirror episode’ (East Midlands Theatre), the hair-raising comedy confounds and captivates audiences with an irresistible blend of gripping suspense and dark humour to deliver an unforgettable new year’s night out.
