Kraken Rum debuts ‘protest’ ice cream in Manchester to raise awareness of littering on UK beaches
Yep – you definitely heard that right. Kraken Rum have teamed up with marine conservation charity PADI AWARE to create a new ice cream, or ‘Ice Clean’, dedicated to raising awareness of the impact of litter on the UK’s beaches. And we get to try it first.
A little different to typical forms of protest – the Kraken ‘Ice Clean’ is a tropical-flavoured dairy ice cream, topped with 3D-printed edible toppings representing the top polluters of our oceans. From plastic bags and bottles, to milk cartons and single-use cutlery; if you don’t want them stuck in your teeth, we don’t want them polluting our waters.
Coming to Manchester on Friday 13th August, Mancs can grab a scoop from three venues: Clubhouse, The Liars Club, and The Pen & Pencil. And for just a quid, too! With all proceeds going to PADI AWARE, to help fund the charity’s mission to reduce ocean debris by HALF within the next 10 years. Better yet: Kraken will match each and every donation, pound-for-pound.
Find it at:
- Clubhouse at 2pm – 5pm, Orwell Square M3 3AG
- The Liars Club at 5pm – 8pm, Back Bridge Street M3 2PB
- The Pen & Pencil at 5pm – 9pm, Hilton Street M1 2EJ
The travelling ‘Freaky Tiki’ ice cream will then stop in Leeds, Glasgow, London and Brighton, in hopes to spread the message to UK ‘staycationers’ to properly dispose of litter this summer.
Is this the best (tastiest) form of activism ever? We think so…
