Due to finish this month on Sat 19 Oct, Mei Yuk Wong’s Reckoning With Refugeedom is part of Journeys Festival International, and one of the events that will be taking place right here in Manchester at PS Mirabel. The event takes place every Thursday, Friday (2pm-6pm), with an extended run on Saturdays (11am-5pm). The art installation examines the cultural and social status of refugees among the noise and disruption caused by contemporary society, telling a series of fragmented narratives about the experience of refugees. The items in the collection are vast, representing the universal nature of refugeedom, with the items including a series of letters, photographs, and newspaper cuttings. The experience is multi-sensory, so prepare for an immersive experience; and one that is sure to change the way you think about your position on the planet. Reckoning With Refugeedom is a project that has arisen directly from the University of Manchester’s Department of History, bringing the expansive nature of the project closer to home.
