Those in the know will be acutely aware that Bohren & Der Club of Gore play very rarely indeed and this is both their only UK date this year – and their first in Manchester. The quartet’s atmosphere swallowing sound has garnered a legion of obsessed fans and inspired an entire sub-genre of music, lazily termed doom-jazz. Playing in pitch darkness, Bohren’s evocative mix of end time melody, detective jazz and bruise blue lounge has had critics citing everyone from Sade, composers Miklos Rozman and Angelo Bandelamenti to try and encapsulate their sound.
