In the ever-changing cultural beacon that is Manchester’s Northern Quarter, it’s easy to be left behind. More than 11 years and many memorable nights into its life, the area’s mainstay Odd Bar has built its strong reputation on recognising the favourites and refreshing its programme to maintain a great mix of regulars and newbies. Odd Open Mic Sessions
Compere, guitarist and quick-witted all-rounder Franco and the Dreadnought presents and gets involved as you dabble with stage time in a relaxed, friendly and most importantly entertaining bi-weekly open mic. Quizimodo
For local boffins and have-a-go-rookies alike, Wednesdays are quiz night. Its constantly renewing format lends an excitement and intrigue unseen in trad, by numbers Q&As, with multimedia, live music, Pictionary and puns all fair game. Next event: Wed 5 Oct.

Ode ft. Spoken Word & Live Music
Hip-hop and spoken word fusion artists Young Identity and Speakeasy are the brains, mouths and creative lights behind a live performance concept inviting the best in the genre to share the stage with their talented house band, Ode:eep. This one’s on the third Thursday of the month, and up next is Kashmir-based MC KASH’s debut UK set, plus anti-austerity voice Steph Pike, on Thu 20 Oct.

Do You Remember The First Time?
Whether you do or don’t, you should definitely head along to this Pulp-referencing whale-of-a-time indie disco boogie. There’s also a happy hour most of the night, including £5/£6 cocktails and £10 bottles of wine from 9pm-12am to get you on your feet. Next event: Thu 13 Oct.

Sunday Blues, Folk & Americana
Still offering the best way to round off your week, The Wicked Path’s weekly live roots nights showcases the area’s best in the genre, with Tom Blackwell and Lonesome & Penniless Cowboys among October’s headliners. Next event: Sun 9 Oct.
