Room on King Street closed down earlier this year – but its grand location won’t be empty for long. Tim Bacon of Living Ventures quickly snapped up the place and has big plans to convert it into a larger version of Grand Pacific, currently the terrace bar at Australasia in Spinningfields. The new restaurant, opening in the summer, will be a 100-cover restaurant with a separate private room and events space. Specialities will include pan-Asian small plate cuisine, such as sushi and fusion dishes. Grand Pacific will be open from brunch, but will come alive later with a late license and high-tech DJ booth. Living Ventures owns the likes of The Alchemist, Artisan, Gusto and Manchester House in the city centre. The existing Grand Pacific bar will soon be rebranded the Australasia Terrace Bar.

Opening this summer, Grand Pacific, 81 King Street, M2 4AH, livingventures.com
