Rochdale author Beth Underdown is se to release her brand new book, The Key in the Lock next month.

Beth’s 2017 debut, The Witchfinder’s Sister, became a Richard and Judy bestseller—and was based on the life of the 1640s witch finder Matthew Hopkins, whom she first came across while reading a book about seventeenth-century midwifery.

Her upcoming release, a gothic mystery, will launch at Blackwell’s Bookshop on Oxford Road, on Thu 13 Jan.

The book’s synopsis reads: “By day, Ivy Boscawen mourns the loss of her son Tim in the Great War. But by night she mourns another boy – one whose death decades ago haunts her still.

“For Ivy is sure that there is more to what happened all those years ago: the fire at the Great House, and the terrible events that came after. A truth she must uncover, if she is ever to be free.”

Beth now lectures in Creative Writing at the University of Manchester, where she also studied.

Tickets to the launch are £3, or free when pre-ordering a copy of the book. Book your spot using the button below.
