Returning to Manchester with another diverse programme of free, ticketed and online events for all ages and tastes, the Muslim Arts and Culture Festival (MACFEST) kicks off its 2026 edition this weekend.

The annual six-month celebration launches on Sat 14 Feb with an opening ceremony at The Whitworth. Running from 11.30am – 1.30pm, the event will feature opening speeches from festival organisers, live music, sand art performances, cake-cutting and more.

The opening ceremony will also mark the official launch of the Muslim Diaspora Archives, celebrating the lives and sharing stories of the first generation of Muslim Migrants who came to Britain in the 1960s and 70s. These archives will be housed at The University of Salford, allowing future generations to look back through fascinating and poignant stories.

Coinciding with the launch, The Whitworth will also host the Muslim Women’s Arts Festival on Sat 14 Feb, promising a day of exhibitions, creative workshops, including calligraphy, tote-making and card-making, cultural hubs and exhibitions by Muslim artists, including winners of the Muslim Arts Awards 2025.

On Sat 23 May, acclaimed comedian, Preacher Moss, who has toured with Dave Chappelle, and written for Damon Wayans and George Lopez, will be chatting about his journey in the industry in a free online event, on Sat 13 Jun, Lowry will host a musical spectacular to mark Eid, while New Adelphi welcomes a preview of the 2026 Muslim Arts Awards on Thu 19 Nov.

Other highlights include mosaic art workshops in both Oldham and Bury, Islamic geometric pattern masterclasses at Longsight Library, a floral art workshop at Didsbury Library, and a free, powerful online panel celebrating International Women’s Day.
