Malian singer and guitarist Vieux Farka Touré is embarking on a solo tour of the UK in support of latest album ‘Samba’. Following in the footsteps of his father (Grammy Award-winning musician Ali Farka Touré) his work is a hypnotic genre-blending mix of blues, desert rock and reggae. Making his debut with an eponymous debut LP back in 2007, fast-forward eleven years and “the Hendrix of the Sahara” is now ten records strong, having also seen off collaborations with Israeli singer-songwriter Idan Raichel and US singer and performance artist Julia Easterlin. Touré’s latest record, recorded in front of a live studio audience in Woodstock, New York, offers a glimpse into his exceptional skill as a guitarist and energy on stage. With anticipation high for another visit to Manchester, budding young singer-songwriter Marco Woolf will also be on hand to get the evening underway with his blend of thoughtful indie-folk following the release of debut EP ‘self’.
