The Northern Art Prize is as close as our region comes to the pomp and pizzazz of the Turner Prize. It’s an occasion at which the finest contemporary artists are grouped together, weighed up and given a shot of exposure – including Manchester-based Pavel Buchler, a previous winner. The 2013 longlist has just been announced and names to look out for include Dave Griffiths who has a film-based show coming up at Castlefield Gallery next month (pictured). As well as Griffiths, the nominees based in Manchester include Iain Andrews, Samantha Donnelly, Dave Mackintosh and David Osbaldeston. Four artists will be shortlisted in September, with their work exhibited at Leeds Art Gallery from 28 March 2013. The winner will be announced on 23 May 2013. Check out the longlist in full here.
