Manchester Arena is celebrating a milestone having welcomed 30 million visitors through its doors since opening in 1995. The news comes as the venue begins a packed 2019 schedule that will see 140 live events for the third year running, expected to welcome 1.2 million visitors this year alone. The 21,000-capacity venue is the largest indoor arena in Europe, and has hosted some of the biggest names in live entertainment including U2, The Rolling Stones and Madonna, and this year will welcome Drake, Little Mix, George Ezra, Michael Bublé and Take That, to name a few. The venue was acquired by a new landlord in 2018, and discussions are now underway to ensure the Arena remains a “focal point at the heart of the city for years to come”. John Sharkey, Executive Vice President of the Arena’s management SMG Europe, commented on the milestone: “Reaching 30 million visitors is a tremendous achievement, but not just for us. This represents every resident and business that make up this great city, as well as every artist that has graced our stage over the years”. John continued: “Look out for further announcements in the coming months that should prove really exciting for the city”. Here’s to the next 30 million.
