On Good Friday 3 April, Manchester Baroque present one of sacred music’s most profound works with a performance of Bach’s St Matthew Passion for the second time at Manchester Cathedral.

First heard on Good Friday in 1727, the St Matthew Passion remains the most reflective of Bach’s Passion settings, charting the final days of Christ through music of immense emotional and architectural scale. Written for two orchestras and two choirs, the work unfolds with monumental power and an immediacy that transcends matters of faith.

The performance begins at 4.30pm and includes an extended interval at 5.45pm, allowing audiences time to eat, reflect or explore the surrounding area before the music resumes at 7.30pm, concluding around 9.15pm.

This unmissable concert showcases the Manchester Cathedral Choir under the baton of Christopher Stokes, alongside Evangelist Rory Carver and Christus sung by Frederick Long, joined by a distinguished team of soloists.
