Between March and June, Manchester Camerata and their partners, Classic FM, stage a series of intimate, inspiring lunchtime concerts at Gorton Monastery spanning iconic string compositions, American big band thrills and even reimagined ballet.
Lasting just one hour, the early afternoon performances offer music-lovers the perfect opportunity to escape the midday frenzy, relax and enjoy an unforgettable hour of music in a spellbinding historic setting.
The next concert in the series combines the storied big wind band culture of North America with beloved pieces from the Camerata’s Mozart, Made in Manchester series on Wed 23 Apr. Assembled by Principal Oboe, Rachael Clegg, the eclectic yet harmonious programme celebrates the vibrant, full-bore bombast of American classical composition with works by Samuel Barber, Amy Beach and others alongside some of Mozart’s finest arrangements. On Wed 18 June, Manchester Camerata joins forces with renowned dance troupe Company Chameleon to present a captivating interpretation of Aaron Copland’s Appalachian Spring, an tender yet sweeping ballet written to evoke America’s wild, beautiful open landscapes and the uplifting frontier spirit.
Known around the UK for their bold, innovative productions, Company Chameleon bring spellbinding new dimensions to Copland’s piece with a blend of sound and interpretive movement. The concert will also feature music by the Camerata 360° Ruth Sutton Fellows. Book tickets HERE.
