Manchester’s annual Caribbean Carnival will return to Platt Fields Park this July. This two-day celebration will showcase the best of Caribbean culture, including exotic food and excellent music. Three music stages will be playing calypso, reggae and of course steel bands. Stalls will be offering a wide range of Jamaican cuisine, including authentic oil drum-cooked barbecue. New for this year’s event is Street Athletics, which is open to both local and national athletes. The Carnival is family friendly and has activities for kids, including face painting and a funfair. The parade, featuring decorated floats and dance troupes, will begin at the Carnival’s spiritual home of Alexandra Park, and make its way through Moss Side and Hulme, accompanied by music from pumping sound systems.
