The annual Manchester Caribbean Carnival normally takes place in Alexandra Park, but unfortunately its home of over 40 years is undergoing a bit of TLC. Thankfully, however, the carnival is still going ahead in its adoptive residence of Platt Fields Park, an area now well-accustomed to hosting the festivities of the city. Celebrating the sights, sounds and smells of the Caribbean, expect steel bands, extravagant costumes, floats, DJs and over 45 dance troupes. Live music will be provided by acts such as Soca Explosion, The Wheeleys and Africa Explosion, providing the best in calypso, soca and reggae. The carnival procession will begin at its birthplace, Alexandra Park, before moving on to its new turf.
