Manchester’s annual Caribbean Carnival returns to Alexandra Park this weekend.
Running across Saturday and Sunday from 12pm – 8pm, the celebration brings an eclectic lineup of events and performances dedicated to celebrating the rich heritage and diversity of the Caribbean and African diaspora.
The programme will feature music, traditional mas bands, dance troupes, steel pans, and a selection of the city’s best food vendors.
Prior to the festival, there will be an early morning J’ouvert — a deeply symbolic celebration honouring the resilience and creativity of Caribbean people — at 7am on Saturday. Starting from outside Powerhouse, this lively tradition has become a staple of the festival.
The main parade, which starts at 12pm outside Alexandra Park, will see a dazzling display of costumes and performances as participants take to the streets of Manchester.
On Sunday, the carnival continues with an array of activities for all ages. The day will feature the main stage performance by BBC 1XTRA’S Seani B, alongside other exciting headline acts.
The Jamaican Corner and Youth Stage will also make a return, providing a platform for local talent and the younger generation’s contributions to the community.
Julia Burke, Chair and Project Manager for the Manchester Carnival Together Committee (CIC), said: “This year’s Manchester Caribbean Carnival is set to be a monumental celebration. We are delighted to have Seani B back on the main stage and look forward to a weekend filled with joy, music, dance, and delicious food.
“The carnival is a symbol of unity, diversity and cultural pride, and we invite everyone to join us in celebrating the vibrant
cultures that have shaped our city.”
