Fresh from blowing the lid off their tent at Shambala Festival, the female-focused GRRRL project – the brainchild of In Place Of War – arrives in Manchester for their final venue show. Encompassing a variety of influential artists including Speech Debelle, Awa Khiwe (Zimbabwe), Lei Di Dai (Brazil), Noella Wiyaala (Ghana), Nono Nkoane (Cape Town), Mabe Chacín (Venezuela) and Sohini Alam (UK), whose styles range from folk to dancehall, the set is an explosion of combined experiences. Support comes from Flex (the debut of Lil’ Fee from the Whip and Peter Parker from Fingathing), Henrietta Smith-Rolla’s Afrodeutsche and a DJ set from MABE. See our full preview here.

Sat 2 Sep / Drexciya Day @ Eastern Bloc
Some of Manchester’s finest techno and electro DJs descend on EB to mark the 15th anniversary of the passing of underground electronic music pioneer James Stinson, half of Detroit’s Drexciya and the brain behind various other transcendental projects. Music runs from 5pm to 11pm.
