On Fri 25 Apr, Manchester Collective join forces with world-renowned electronic composer and musician Clark and award-winning choreographer Melanie Lane for a spellbinding one-off concert merging the worlds of contemporary dance, classical music and experimental sounds.
In Refractions, the multi-talented artists unite to rewrite musical chronology in a form-twisting whirlwind of sonic innovation, as medieval and baroque traditions collide with modern electronica while dancers invoke rituals from ancient and alien civilisations alike.
Devised as a continuous aural and visual feast for the senses, the concert sees electronic maestro Clark draw on his all-embracing oeuvre to showcase brand-new arrangements of his breathtaking works alongside the Collective strings and piano ensemble, while creative director and violinist Rakhi Singh maps enchanting constellations between historically discordant musical styles with light years between them, weaving a common classical thread across time.
Alongside the exhilarating music, Melanie Lane’s bold and propulsive choreography conjures magic from the battling elements of chaos and harmony, darkness and light and speed and stillness, as a trio of dancers transport audiences to mystifying new worlds where sound echoes throughout the centuries.
