And not only that but they get their friends to perform for free too. David Longley | The Pub/Zoo | Tue 7 Feb | 7.30pm | £5/3
This show has been billed as welcoming a very special guest to the Malarkey stage and with XS’s history of pretty special special guests as well as their consistent top bookings this is something to get excited about. Though whoever it is who turns up will have to be pretty impressive to out do the filthy yet intelligent musings of David Longley and the avant garde weirdness of Alasdair Beckett-King. It’s worth your time and money even if the guest turns out to be Roy Chubby Brown or something.

Rahul Kohli | Sandbar | Wed 8 Feb | 8pm | FREE
Another free show to sate your comedy appetite this week sees rising star Rahul Kohli (pictured) take the Dead Cat stage with his current touring show ‘Newcastle Brown Tales’. As no doubt gathered from Rahul’s name and choice of show title Kohli is of Geordie and Asian descent, a pairing that the young comic mines to great effect. Your regular host Red Redmond promises more fresh young acts to get your midweek laughs from making this a great chance to see a hot tip on an intimate stage. And all for the price of stolen pick n mix.

Alongside the mayhem of that staple of mid 90s Saturday night television will be comedian James Meehan, shedding the PE kit of his sketch pals Gein’s Family Giftshop, Liverpool based comedy duo Jim Alsbalstian’s Human Zoo, Sam Jenkins and music from South Island Son.
