Sidekick | Via | Mon 14 Dec | 7.30pm | £2
Sneaking in a special festive one off, Sidekick has put together a top line up to get you through this wintry Monday night. Tom Little is one of our favourites, his surreal deconstructions of his own one liners are a sight to behold, Jay Hampson offers up some of the more charming anecdotal comedy you’ll hear this year, and well Kate McCabe is just a goddam delight as the host. Fill your stockings with Christmas cheer.

Chateau le Bomb | The Castle | Wed 16 Dec | 7.30pm | £4
Launching a brand new comedy night one week before Christmas is a pretty bold move, but then boldness seems to be the order of the day for this new brain child of surreal comedian Chris Cantrill. A competition without the competition, a closed off open mic with comedy lumphammer Liam Pickford headlining, Chateau le Bomb is markedly different from your regular stand up showcase. And at just £4 it’s a steal of a midweek treat.

Sham Bodie | Gulliver’s | Thu 17 Dec | 7.30pm | £5
Sham Bodie sign off for the year with an appearance from arch-prankster and ‘gig-smasher’ Sean Morley alongside the mad mind of Harriet Dyer. An appearance from the Northern Quarter Boys Choir and their delicious beards will raise the voice of even the calmest crowds. Host Ben Tonge will also be introducing a brand new game called ‘It’s beginning to lookalike a lot like Christmas.’ Festive tongue twisters aside, there will be the usual levels of madcap shenanigans with a free hot dog at half time.

Comedy Playground | Richmond Tea Rooms | Thu 17 Dec | 7pm | £10
Two of the Manchester cabaret scene’s most fabulous performers are joining forces for another new night in the city this December. Hosted by Sophie Willan and headlined by Jonathan Mayor, the pair have invited some of their most exciting and innovative friends along to entertain you. Showing off is something the pair pride themselves upon and so this should be quite the ludicrous and camp affair suitable for a raucous pre-Christmas night out in the village.

New Comedians | The Comedy Store | Sun 20 Dec | £4/2
Alex Boardman’s celebration of new comedy talent in and around Manchester takes a slightly different route for this Christmas special as he welcomes some of his favourite acts from the circuit rather than the fresh pickings he usually presents. Which is no bad thing, especially since it’s the same price. Tonight we see the none more deadpan Peter Brush, and Canadian firebrand Allyson June Smith. A pair of top acts for just £4 for a lovely Sunday eve, but never fear, if you are just popping along to keep abreast of the newest kids on the block there will be a couple of open spots testing the water very early in their careers.
