The countdown has officially begun for Manchester Day 2019, the city’s free family day out, which returns in June. The event has been around for a decade, so this year’s theme is ‘10 out of 10’. The aim is to celebrate the many aspects of the city that deserve top marks, such as our achievements in industry, science, music, fashion and sport. The highlight of the event, as ever, will be the giant parade. The mammoth task of creating the artworks and costumes falls to producers Walk the Plank, who are working with 30 artists and more than 1,500 volunteers from local communities. A wide range of volunteering opportunities are available, if you fancy joining in. The fun spills out from the parade into the city’s squares, which will be hubs of music, dance, outdoor theatre, food and drink. The full details are set to be revealed in the coming weeks.
