Manchester Film Festival returns in March 2019. Taking place at the Odeon in the Great Northern, the programme includes over 150 films, including narrative and documentary features, shorts, experimental films, music videos, animations, and virtual reality. Several screenings will have Q&As with the filmmakers after the event. The opening and closing night gala will feature showings of Hotel Mumbai, starring Dev Patel; and the Werner Herzog documentary Meeting Gorbachev. Before select showings, there will be ‘filmmaker studios’ at the old Granada building. Here, people involved with the making of the films will discuss their work in-depth. There’s also a lecture about horror screenwriting, which will give attendees insight into the workings of the genre and provide you advice about topics such as how to create a memorable monster. Another lecture, hosted by experienced producer Gareth Jones, is all about financing independent films.
