The week before Christmas is busier than ever when it comes to eating and drinking in Manchester. There’s a new branch of Takk and a new sister venture, called ÖL, a nano-brewery and bar collaboration with Byrne the Cake Brewery both opening at Hatch. A new bar, Albatross and Arnold, is now open in Spinningfield’s urban golf club The Range, and we find out more about cult pizza pop-up, Cibus, in Fred’s Ale House in Levenshulme. Incoming next week is our round up of the best January deals which includes free wine – all the time – at Randall & Aubin. Can’t wait that long? Tuck into an excellent winter deal at Bakerie.

Now open: Hatch is now open beneath the Mancunian way flyover ft. Takk’s new Espresso bar
Manchester’s answer to Shoreditch’s BoxPark the striking new build on Oxford Road will home retailers and food vendors in each of its container-style units. This week their first tenants moved in; popular Scandi coffee shop Takk throw open the doors to their ‘Espresso Bar’, a neat little space to grab a cup, or sit and watch passers by through floor to ceiling glass paneling. With signature Icelandic cool furnishing, and a variety of roasted beans to chose from, the options for an early morning espresso on Oxford Road have been much improved.

A new nano brewery and keg bar will be up and running shortly, also in the Hatch area. A collaboration with Byrne the Cake Brewery, ÖL will serve a selection of Danish, Norwegian, and Swedish beers alongside some local keg favourites. Once in full-swing, ÖL will be selling their own craft beer from their nano-brewery. With plans for up to 33 units – watch this space for more Hatch news.

Now open: Albatross and Arnold, sleek new small plates restaurant and wine bar
The new venue is tucked away in Spinningfield’s urban golf club, The Range. The name may originate from a golf term, but this is certainly no sports bar – the team at Albatross and Arnold are pitching at something altogether more sophisticated. The food is seasonal and inspired by the British Isles, with plates such as Lancashire cheese bon bons and whisky glazed pork belly.
