Manchester’s food and drink news this week includes Cha-ology, a new Japanese sweet shop and tea room for Ancoats,  Chorlton casual dining smash hit, Laundrette, is coming to First Street and a new, British pop up restaurant in south Manchester called Stretford Canteen. Other openings coming soon include Grafene – read our story here – plus there’s Chorlton Beer and Cider Festival this weekend too (click here for more) and Bradford curry house Mumtaz has finally opened its doors in Old Trafford.

New Japanese tea house for Ancoats: Cha-ology (pic)
Arriving in Ancoats this month, comes Japanese sweets and tea room, Cha-ology. Serving beautiful tea and desserts such as matcha ice cream, homemade anko with chewy dango topping, watch this space for its Nuovo building opening date. The Laundrette to open second restaurant at First Street
Building on the success of its flagship Chorlton restaurant, The Laundrette team are bringing a new restaurant to the city. Joining the other new arrivals, it will be based at the ever-expanding First Street, next to HOME. As ‘proud suppliers of cocktails and carbs’, they’ll be providing just that, with their trademark weird and wonderful concoctions. Keep an eye on their Twitter account for a launch date.

New part-time, pop up British restaurant: Stretford Canteen
Stretford Canteen opening for three nights a week across this summer’s weekends. In intimate surroundings, it’s a strictly book ahead and a bring your own booze deal. Serving locally sourced, hearty British classics, there are plenty of gluten free and vegetarian options options as well. Starters include chicken liver pâté, Manchester sourdough with pickled radish and spinach and blue cheese tart with carrot and fennel salad; mains include baked salmon, fennel butter with Syrian lentils and spicy pepper and tomato stew with Cheshire blue eggs and green salad.
