This week’s food and drink news features a new restaurant for John Dalton Street, heaps of Christmas markets, a brew tap just a train ride away and a vegan supper at a football club.

Coming soon: George’s Great British Kitchen
Set to arrive in Manchester early next year, the family-run restaurant is the creation of two Nottingham school friends with the flagship restaurant in their city (pictured). Now open in Newcastle, Liverpool and Leeds, they were originally traditional fish and chip restaurants. With a broader menu on offer, dishes served include chicken in a basket, runny-yolked Scotch eggs, a stacked fish burger as well as traditional desserts such as steamed puddings, crumbles and tarts. A fully stocked gin bar will offer variants from across the country, specialising in gin cocktails. Watch this space for an official opening date.
Opening early 2018, 29 John Dalton Street, Manchester, M2 6DS. www.georgesgreatbritishkitchen.co.uk
