All-inclusive food and booze party with a heart: Auction Against Hunger at Upper Campfield Market
HUGE NEWS for Manchester’s food event calendar as Action Against Hunger launches the first Auction Against Hunger in the North. This is basically a big food and booze party, where everything is included in your ticket price, including top end wine, fancy cocktails and (in London) small plates by Michelin star chefs. The format will be the same up here, although the line up has yet to be announced. Included in the price of a ticket are seven dishes which you get ‘stamped’ off on a little cards as you graze your way around the venue, before bidding on fabulous, foodie prizes. A highlight of London’s dining calendar, expect tickets for this one to fly out.
Thu 6 Sep, Upper Campfield Market Hall, Barton Street, Manchester M3 4NN. 6.30-10,30pm, £TBC, www.actionagainsthunger.org.uk

Just announced: Local Spanish chain, Evuna, to open in Altrincham
Stamford New Road is looking likely to gain a new restaurant this year. Jane and Frances Dowler have applied for a licence to transform the Eat Kaizen site into their version of a Spanish restaurant – just as their flagship Deansgate Manchester restaurant approaches its 15th birthday. Serving tapas, paella and other favourites as well as a monthly focus on different regional wines, they hope to be open as soon as 12 weeks after the licence is approved. Watch this space.
Opening date TBC; Evuna Altrincham 84-86 Stamford New Rd, Altrincham WA14 1BS

Book tickets: The Fairfield Cider Fête at Fairfield Social Club
Now that the panic is over and the Co2 levels have, well, levelled, we can dig into the classic summer bevvy properly. The Fairfield Cider Fête will consist of three sessions – one on Friday, two on Saturday featuring 100 ciders from more than 20 suppliers. The event is being organised by street food experts GRUB and Hogan’s Cider.
Fri 27 & Sat 28 Jul, Fairfield Social Club, Arch 6, Temperance Street, Manchester, M12 6HR. times and prices vary, www.eventbrite.co.uk

Just announced: Viet Shack (pictured) to open in Ancoats
Viet Shack, the Manchester Arndale street food dudes capable of making delicious things out of simple ingredients (with a Vietnamese bent – their summer rolls are worth a diversion from anywhere in the city centre) have announced that they’re to take on their first restaurant space, the old Squid Ink site on Great Ancoats Street. From shack to restaurant proper, they haven’t released much info on what the menu will look like but we hope that there will be a few special appearances from their partner business, Fusion Lab.
Opening TBC, Unit 4, 67 Great Ancoats Street, Manchester M4 5AB @vietshack
